Save the Date for Bike Week June 2nd-9th, 2018!

National Bike to Work Day will be celebrated May 18th.  We encourage you to ride to work on May 18th.  Several years ago, the Wisconsin Bike Fed  chose to move our celebration to the first week in June and create an  inclusive  event by changing the name to “Bike Week”, offering many opportunities to create fun rides and activities for everyone to enjoy.

This year, Bike Week will be celebrated across Wisconsin June 2nd-9th.  Communities are busy coordinating commuter stations, rides, and events for all ages to enjoy.  Check our Bike Week page to see the  calendar of events for Milwaukee, Madison, La Crosse, Eau Claire  and the Fox Cities.  We are happy to share your local events as well.  Contact carolyn.dvorak@wisconsinbikefed.org to add your event to the calendar.

In La Crosse, we will have plenty of fuel for riding with the generous contribution of several coffee shops who provide a free cup of coffee for cyclists who stop by their shop all week.  This year’s participating coffee shops include  MOKA, Grounded Speciality Coffee, Mary Cody’s Restaurant, Global Grounds, People’sFood Co-op, The Pearl Coffee House, 500 Club Bistro, The Root Note and Jules Coffee House.

Bike Bingo will give people the chance to ride to a variety of locations to qualify for a chance to win prizes. You can pick up a card at the YMCA, county libraries or download your own copy here.  Ride all week to a variety of  locations and turn in your card at the Bike Fed tent at the Cameron Park Farmer’s Market on Friday, June 8th for a chance to win prizes.

Two of our northern community members will lead  learn to commute rides  from Onalaska to La Crosse Monday through Thursday morning.  Check here for details about meeting locations and start times.

Saturday, June 2nd will include a ride to the first Annual Caledonia Street Block Party.  There will be face painting and games for kids, food vendors, a Pearl Street Brewery beer garden and  Greg Balfany’s jazz band with plenty of room for a street dance.

La Crosse area businesses are offering a fun mix of commuter stations. Smith’s Bike Shop will open their doors Monday through Friday from 7am to 9am, offering coffee and treats as well as commuting resources.  People’s Food Co-op will have a commuter station in front of their business on Wednesday  from 7am-11am with bike checks from Bikes Limited and helmets from AAA, as long as  supplies last.  Western T.C. will offer a Lunch Commuter Station on Wednesday from 11am-1 pm located at the Integrated Technology Center parking lot (on Vine Street between 7th and 8th Streets).  They will  serve mini subs and offer commuter resources.  Everyone is welcome.

Other rides during the week  incude a ride through the Marsh with Friends of the La Crosse Marsh, an Ice Cream Ride, a Sculpture Tour hosted by local sculptor Mike Martino,  the annual Ride with the Mayor  which will look at the north side of La Crosse and  Smith’s Bike Shop group ride series including a Women’s ride, a Beginner Ride and a Mountain Bike Ride.

Robbie Young, the new owner of Coulee Bicycle Co. will lead a Thursday ride to Ride to Moon Tunes and Friday’s closing event will offer a chance for kids to pedal a bicycle blender and create a one of a kind photgraph with props at the Farmer’s Market, followed by a Bike Scavenger  Hunt and party.  Bring your cameras and appetite for fun.  See the full schedule  for La Crosse here.
